Important message about Sussex Police "Crime Alert" messages

The following message is being sent to all Coordinators and Members, on behalf of the Committee of the Horsham District Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Message begins>>

Dear Coordinators & members

Horsham District Neighbourhood Watch Association (HDNWA) has received an apology from Sussex Police which has been extended to all our members regarding the failure to provide Crime Alert update messages (hereafter called Alerts) for the past eight months. Sussex Police also recognise that changing the format of the crime updates between March & June 2023 did not provide sufficient meaningful information to Neighbourhood Watch members.

Members of the HDNWA Committee recently met with senior officers from Sussex Police and the following agreements were reached:

1. At least fortnightly Alerts will be issued.

2. Ad hoc Alerts will be issued within two days of any trends in crimes or series of crimes being identified.

3. The content details in the Alerts will return to the previous format showing, dates, times, road names, areas, etc. (a list has been agreed.)

4. Sussex Police will conduct a three-month review of the Alert procedure. HDNWA have been invited to provide feedback and offer suggested changes.

We are happy to arrange a committee meeting via ZOOM for Coordinators and members to enable them to meet our Sussex Police District Commander and hear more about Neighbourhood Watch. If you are interested, please write to our mailbox at horshamnhw@gmail.com. Following receipt of your email, we will provide all the necessary details to enable you to attend.

Thank you.

Kind regards

Mary Irons

Secretary for Horsham District Neighbourhood Watch Association
